About This Girl

Hmmmmm. What to say….

Deep breath now…

I was born in Waynesboro Virginia, in the (ahem) early 1980’s.  I also lived in Puerto Rico, Jacksonville Florida, Tybee Island Georgia, and erm Sligo before eventually settling in Galway in 1998.  I could tell you the story behind the many moves, but I dont want to bore you.

I have always been an avid lover of the fashion world and  I am passionate about all aspects of it, Clothing, Shoes, Accessories, Models, Magazines, Photographers, Photography, Make up, Hair.. Ahhhh, I love it all! I suppose it was only natural that I would eventually end up with a career in this field.

The path to getting there was not always clear and I spent the first half of my professional life  running restaurants, as it was a natural progression from my first jobs, waitressing and bar tending in pubs.  I then took a year and a half out to eh “travel” which really just consisted of moving to Vancouver and getting another restaurant job. An expired visa, some difficult decisions,  a return  to Galway along  with a few more restaurant jobs I finally decided to stop talking about doing something different and actually do it. Thanks to my mothers lifelong passion for vintage and the fact she has owned and operated her own vintage stores since the early 90’s, I am now the proud owner of a little shop called Enchanted Vintage located in the heart  Galway.  I know I am only getting started but I have big, big plans for world domination, um,  I mean my new business, through the help of this blog I intend to get there.

Eh, lets make a slight amendment, shall we? Due to unforeseen ( or possibly should have been seen) circumstances, the galway shop closed in July 2011. Sadly the high rents and rates combined with the dreaded recession left us with no choice but to close the Galway branch of the store. The sligo store is still alive and well and I highly recommend a visit, at the moment it is open by appointment only, so if you are heading in that direction just send my mom a little mail enchanted@vintageclothing.ie

This blog is here for me to share our my mothers vintage shop with the world as well as share a little bit of me with the world (and keep me sane on the quiet days) I intend it to be a mix bag, of yesterdays fashions and todays, designer and high street, old stories, new stories, stories about me, my travels, and anything else that takes my fancy. I hope you’ll find some thing you like and stay awhile…. Looking forward to hearing your comments X

Some History….

Enchanted Vintage was born in Charlottesville, Virginia by Victoria Robinson in 1991. Victoria  (also known as mom) was born and and raised in New York City.  As a teenager in the 70’s she preferred the glamour and style of the past generations to the one of her own. She spent her spare time and money  searching the local 2nd hand stores in search of more interesting individual items to wear.  Fast forward a few years (and few different locations) to when she was working in an antique store in downtown Charlottesville. Her passion for vintage clothing still going strong and her collection ever growing, her then boss offered her a small corner of the antique store to sell some of her finds. She set it up, decided to call it Enchanted Vintage and off it took.

However, her “enchantment” (excuse the cheesy pun*cough) with living state side was beginning to wear and in 1995 she took the opportunity to pack up the business, the family, and her life and move to Sligo, Ireland.  Fast forward another few years (and a lot of adjusting) to 2002  when she decided to relaunch the business in Rathcormac, Sligo.  After a few years and a lot of work, along with the help of the website launch Enchanted Vintage is  becoming one of the most well known go to places for fabulous vintage finds in Ireland. In July 2010 we opened up our second location in Galway city, Ireland and is was being run by myself,  Jessica Robinson (also known as the daughter).
