Oh, so another race week has come and gone and all the locals of Galway can breath a sigh of relief. Phew. Yes, of course it brings in a huge amount of people and creates a bit of a ‘buzz’ if you will, but, for those of us working in the hospitality trade, it is a nightmare of the most hellish kind. Lots and lots of idiot drunks, puking in the streets, fighting, urinating in public and in fact one couple was spotted having sex outside a restaurant one evening. Oh the sophistication of it all.
Not that its all drunken misbehavior on the streets(that only comes much much later). Early in the day, its all men in suits and ladies dressed up to the nines, (to the nines is an odd expression, anyone know where it came from?) no make up smudges, still wearing the heels, the men still have their ties on and no one is stuffing their face with a burger (yet, as if I can pass judgement on that, my diet that day consisted of a pizza slice, a half a subway sw, a burger and 2 bottles of prosecco, bleugh) What do you call that? The diet of champions I believe.
So in an effort to keep up with the level of class, I donned this flipping fabulous 1980s dress and 1940s hat from the shop. Not going to lie, I was feeling rather glam. I was joined by some good friends of mine Ailbhe McMahon and Sarah O’Neil who is the designer of her own clothing label, Harlow and Harvey.
Sarah and Ailbhe were both wearing designs from Sarah s most recent collection. While I didn’t get into the best dressed competition(shock!horror!) Sarah did get a nomination for best hat and the lady who won best dressed for the day was actually wearing a dress that she purchased from my moms shop, so over all I’d say it was a big, fat win! Delighted and we had a great day. Thank you ladies for being such wonderful company….
