Oh crap, its Thursday. Where does the time go anyway? This week has totally gotten away from me again and Im sorry! I’m afraid this will only be a quick post and my only one from this week as I am off to London with the man for a weekend shop, erm, I mean break… obviously. Since I am taking the weekend off, as a consequence I’ve been up to my eyeballs at work leaving very little time to blog. Ill be back next week with more London stories and hopefully some vintage purchases to share with you!
Any-who, last week I managed to squeeze out enough spare time to watch the other 3 parts of Mildred Pierce (true dedication all that sitting around doing nothing, while *eh-hem hungover). I mentioned before that it was a bit of a slow burner. It gets better! (warning, spoil alert! If you dont want to know what happens skip this part and move on to the images!)
So HBO did not at all re create the Joan Crawford movie, instead they went with the book. There is no added murder to the plot line and it doesn’t really need it. Yes, it takes awhile to pick up and in truth it doesn’t ever really pick up a very fast pace. It’s not really that kind of story.
There is a lot of emotional buildup, and its that, which makes you feel involved in the story and the reason I kept watching (aside from the clothing, more on that in a minute!) I felt both sorry and frustrated with Kate’s character Mildred as I watched her get crushed by her spoiled, selfish daughter Veda (Evan Rachel Wood). I kept watching with the hope that she would give ol’ Veda a good slap. I wont tell you exactly how it ends, but…
Ok, on to the clothing. As I suspected, it does get better once sour-faced Wood steps in as the role of Veda. I wanted everything she wore. Kate’s wardrobe, sadly, doesn’t get much better. They kept her in boring brown or mumsy cream for the duration of the series. YAWN. Never mind, I suppose it couldn’t be all flashy glamour like Joan in the original! Here are some images I gathered to give you an idea.
So, as you can see, ERW’s character Veda wins best dressed hands down and all in all I have 2 give credit to both ladies for their acting in this, as it was superb and of course to Guy Pierce, for getting his kit off. All excellently done. (cue dirty laugh heh heh heh)
Until next week, Im off! Enjoy your weekends, I know I will! X
